356-Apartment Complex to Replace Closed Macy’s in Pompano Beach, Florida

Pompano Citi Centre is an open-air shopping center located in Broward County, Florida. It’s presently home to a Macy’s, which ceased operations about two years ago. Now, the Morgan Group, Inc., a Houston-based developer, hopes to turn the Macy’s into a residential housing community. Plans show that developers intend on moving forward with 356 apartments, according to the Real Deal.

Homes will be spread across seven four-story buildings, with six buildings offering 48 units and one building offering 68, according to Point! Publishing. At least 15 percent of the units are set aside for those making no more than 120 percent of the area’s median income.

The Macy’s closed in 2020, unable to compete with online retailers.

Communal amenities will include a one-story clubhouse, gym, pool, and dog park. The community will also be gated. Sources report that as of August 10, developers have not submitted a building permit application to the City of Pompano Beach.

The Morgan Group, Inc. is acting as the general contractor. Before starting construction on the multi-acre build site, it must demolish the Macy’s. MSA Architects is the developer behind the garden-style apartment complex. The Miami-based firm presently has 80 active projects, mostly in the private residential sector.

Upon completion, the $134 million project will comprise 20 percent of Pompano Citi Centre’s square footage. The venture’s located at 1200 Northeast 23rd Street, Pompano Beach, Florida, 33062, in Broward County.

I am very happy to see we ar5e finally doing something sensible and not trying to spend money developing new buildings. Let’s use the ones we have. We’re overcrowded as it is.
