Construction on Phase One of Gas Worx to Start Soon in Tampa, FL

In August 2022, Tampa city officials declared a housing crisis, helping pave the way for “Gas Worx,” a mixed-use venture that will offer more than 5,000 homes––over 300 of which are affordable housing units.

Site plans also call for 140,200 square feet of retail space and more than 500,000 square feet of uptown office space. The transit-oriented community will rest on a 40-acre build site, according to That’s So Tampa.

The mixed-use venture will offer retail, residential, and office space.

Construction’s anticipated to start by the end of this year. Gas Worx will reach completion in phases. When finished, the entire project will comprise 5.9 million square feet. The first phase will offer more than 700 apartments spread across three buildings.

The Tampa Bay Business Journal notes that phase one will also include 20,000 square feet of retail and 940 parking spots. Gas Worx featutres two miles of new streets and 3.6 miles of new sidewalks. Outdoor amenities could also include 1.2 miles of biking trails.

Construction on phase one could start by the end of this year.

The City of Tampa is the project’s owner. Kettler and Philips Development & Realty, LLC are the developers. Bohler Engineering is the structural engineer. Sources report that Gas Worx could require more than $800 million to complete.

Gas Worx will be located between Ybor City and the Channel District.
