Griffin Lofts of Lakeland Proposed for 225 and 419 Griffin Road, Lakeland, Florida

A new affordable housing community could soon call Lakeland, Florida, home. Sources report that the 60-unit development will focus on helping people with insecure housing. LKLD Now notes that the venture is dubbed “Griffin Lofts of Lakeland.”

Plans call for a four-story building that will comprise 38 one-bedroom and 22 two-bedroom apartments. Sources report that construction could start in June 2023. Griffin Lofts at Lakeland will require 72,000 square feet of new construction. The venture’s estimated to cost anywhere from $15 million to $20.7 million.

The venture will offer 60 affordable housing units.

Oscar Sol, the founder and principal of Green Mills Group (the developer), told the Ledger: “It will look just like market-rate housing, only some of the units will have supportive services.”

Who qualifies for residency at Griffin Lofts of Lakeland depends on a household’s income. For instance, the Ledger notes that 12 of the apartments are reserved for those making less than 40 percent of the area median income. That’s $16,555 for an individual.

Construction could start this summer.

Zyscovich Architects/Miami is the architect. Hamilton Engineering is the landscape architect and civil engineer. RESTEKC Engineering is the MEP engineer, and Bliss & Nyitray Inc. is the structural engineer.

Griffin Lofts at Lakeland’s address is 225 and 419 Griffin Road, Lakeland, Florida, 33805, in Polk County.

  1. Sounds like property values in that area are going to come crashing down. These sound like they will be government subsidized low income housing which will bring a lot of drugs and other unwanted issues.

  2. Not good bad news

  3. I am looking for a place to live

  4. Are these going to be income based ? What is the annual income limits per person?
