Speros FL to Break Ground in Late 2023 in Pasco County, FL

Moffitt Cancer Center has big plans for a 775-acre development in Pasco County, Florida. Dubbed “Speros FL,” the $9.3 billion venture will feature 16 million square feet of “lab, office, manufacturing and clinical space,” per Moffitt Cancer Center.

Plans add some flexibility in case developers want to add more classrooms, teaching centers, kitchens, a performing arts center, and health clubs. Sources note that Speros FL will reach completion in phases, with construction starting on the first phase in November 2023.

The venture sits on more than 700 acres.

That phase alone will require 1.5 million square feet of new construction, with 650,000 square feet comprising various facilities. As noted, Moffitt Cancer Center owns the development. It chose the word “Speros” because it comes from the Latin word meaning “to hope.”

The organization hopes that the name promotes confidence in those who choose to visit the facility. Barr & Barr is the general contractor. Of the project, the Tampa-based organization said that “Speros FL will be transformational for our area, delivering pioneering services and cutting-edge research that will revolutionize the fight against cancer.”

Sources list this address as the future build site.

The symbolic groundbreaking took place in January 2023. Spero FL’s address is State Road 52 and Suncoast Trail, Shady Hills, Florida, 34610, in Pasco County. Google Earth’s renderings show that the build site is currently undeveloped.

  1. Great project looking forward to the open house. Speaking with a family member Speros Fl sounds like a town of its own. We concluded that the project should be called Speros at Shady Hills or Speros Moffitt, just a thought.
