Broward Health and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital Plan Collaboration for Sunrise, FL

Broward Health has teamed up with Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital to build a freestanding adult and pediatric emergency room in South Florida. The one-story facility would comprise just over 18,000 square feet of new construction, featuring 15 exam rooms and 98 parking spots.

The South Florida Business Journal notes that the venture will rest on a four-acre build site that the hospital owns. Conceptual renderings show two separate entrances: one for adult patients, the other for pediatric.

The venture will be located in Sunrise, FL.

The architecture and landscaping will also prioritize noise abatement, limiting the exterior sound both patients and nearby homeowners hear. This is especially important, as Google Earth’s renderings show that the emergency department will be adjacent to various townhomes.

Records from the City of Sunrise show that the build site is currently zoned as B-2 (Community Business District). Broward Health and Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital’s collaboration will open in winter 2025. At this time, construction has not yet started. Yet, the venture’s website reports that the general contractor will take extra precautions to avoid damaging the area’s nearby wetlands.

The new hospital will span 9001 to 9211 W. Oakland Park Blvd, Sunrise, Florida, 33351. The venture is directly north of Oakland Park Boulevard and east of the Sawgrass Expressway.
