Avalon South Miami Starts Construction at 5850 SW 73rd Street, Miami, Florida

Nearly three years after purchasing a 1.86-acre parcel, developers have started construction on Avalon South Miami. The developer secured the build site for $18.95 million and demolished a 20,000-square-foot Winn-Dixie grocery store before breaking ground. 5850 S.W. 73 Street LLC was the seller.

The 10-story Avalon South Miami will comprise 290 apartments, ranging from studio to three-bedroom units. The South Florida Business Journal reports that some will be townhomes with two-story lofts.

The 10-story complex will offer more than 200 units.

Per the venture’s website, in-unit amenities include quartz countertops, stainless-steel appliances, and patio space. Residents will enjoy various on-site amenities, including a private dining room, fitness center, lounge, pet spa, and co-working space.

The residential offerings are just one part of the mixed-use venture. The complex’s bottom floor will host a 27,000-square-foot grocery store. Records suggest that it may be a Fresh Market. Sources are unclear what other commercial ventures the remaining 4,000 square feet will feature.

The mixed-use venture will replace this since-demolished Winn-Dixie.

As noted, AvalonBay Communities is the developer. Corwil Architects designed the community, and First Florida is the general contractor. Without any obstacles or delays, the venture could finish construction in late 2025.

Avalon South Miami’s address will be 5850 SW 73^rd Street, Miami, Florida, 33143, in Miami-Dade County. It’s located north of Pine Crest Gardens.
