On May 21, AdventHealth began construction on its first hospital in southeast Orlando’s Lake Nona community. The project, located at 10999 Narcoossee Road, involves the development of a 10-story, $423 million hospital facility. Slated for completion in 2026, the hospital will initially house 80 beds, with provisions to expand to 320 beds. The development also includes a medical office building and retail spaces on the 25-acre site.

Doug Harcombe, CEO of AdventHealth Lake Nona and market CEO for AdventHealth’s south market, emphasized the attraction to Lake Nona’s commitment to wellness and innovation, as reported by the Orlando Business Journal. Harcombe outlined the hospital’s ambition to establish a center of excellence featuring advanced technologies such as ultrasound tumor treatments and robotic surgical systems.

Further enhancing the campus will be its integration with the Lake Nona Trail and an outdoor amphitheater, promoting a community-friendly environment beyond traditional medical services. Harcombe highlighted the strategic proximity to Orlando International Airport, facilitating visits by medical professionals for learning and collaboration on specialized treatments, including bariatric, cardiology, men’s health, neurology, and orthopedics.

ESa has been designated as the project architect, and Brasfield & Gorrie will be the general contractor. The hospital will employ 500 staff members upon opening, with plans to increase this number as the facility expands.

The existing 19,000-square-foot freestanding emergency room at 10080 Lake Nona Blvd., operational since 2020, will continue to serve the community until the hospital’s inauguration. Future potential repurposing of the ER includes conversion into a medical office building or an outpatient surgical center.

This development aligns with Orlando’s growth projections, anticipating an influx of approximately 80,862 residents to the southeast region by 2050. Tavistock Development Group’s president and chief operating officer, Craig Collin, expressed enthusiasm for providing innovative treatment options to the rapidly growing community. AdventHealth joins other medical institutions in Lake Nona, including Nemours Children’s Health, HCA Healthcare Inc., and the Department of Veterans Affairs, to serve the region’s healthcare needs.
