Our sources point to an exciting venture proposed for a 25-acre site in Broward County.
The Weston City Commission heard the proposal for Gables Weston on August 19th, where an affiliate of Atlanta-based Gables Residential wanted to have the parcel rezoned from high-rise multi-family to planned development district.
Plans called for a community with three housing types: 384 apartments, 80 single-family homes, and 28 townhouses. More specifically, the South Florida Business Journal notes that the minimum sizes would be 750 square feet, 2,100 square feet, and 1,500 square feet, respectively. All homes at Gables Weston would be rentals. Some communal amenities include a fitness center and co-working space.
The apartment building would also have a rooftop parking garage and pool deck. Previously, the 25-acre build site was home to Bonaventure Resort & Spa, a 504-room hotel that was developed in the 1980s. It was demolished after Gables Residential secured the build site for $50 million in 2022.
Baker Barrios Architects designed the mid-rise community. It also designed Aventana, a 16-story tower that we reported on in March 2024. The proposal called for more than 354,000 square feet of new construction and 344 apartments, 34 of which would be reserved as workforce housing.
Gables Weston could soon unfold at 250 Racquet Club Road, Weston, FL, 33326, in Broward County.
