Two developers have secured approval from Oakland Park city officials regarding a mixed-use venture in Broward County. The Horizon of Oakland Park will offer 331 apartments and retail space in two mid-rise buildings.

The South Florida Business Journal reports that 10 percent of the homes (averaging to about 33) would be reserved as workforce housing. Communal amenities would include a dog park, swimming pool, fitness centers, and electric vehicle charging stations.

Aside from the residential aspect, plans also call for the construction of a Dutch-style pedestrian bridge that would connect the six- and five-story buildings. There would also be 20,000 square feet of retail and 195 public parking spots.

As part of the project, developers would create a city park featuring tennis and pickleball courts, along with a children’s playground. After a long competitive selection process, Falcone Group and Kaufman Lynn Construction were chosen to develop the site. The pair intend to break ground on The Horizon of Oakland Park later next year, with completion slated for early 2028.

The mixed-use venture would take shape on a six-acre site currently owned by the city of Oakland Park; the developers aim to close on the property prior to the start of construction in 2025. The Horizon of Oakland Park is slated for the site located at “the southeast corner of Northeast 12th Avenue and Northeast 38th Street.”
