Shawmut Design and Construction and Clearline Real Estate have officially broken ground on Excel Miami, a 24-story residential tower located at 1550 NE Miami Place in Miami’s Arts & Entertainment District. The project will bring 427 rental apartments to the area, providing a range of housing options.
Designed by Arquitectonica, with LEO A DALY serving as the architect-of-record, the tower will include units ranging from studios to two-bedroom apartments, along with 13 townhouse lofts. Unit sizes will range from 400 to 1,000 square feet. Amenities on the sixth floor will feature a pool, yoga deck, fitness center, coworking spaces, a film room, and podcast suites. Located near the Metromover School Board Station, the project emphasizes transit accessibility and walkability.
The façade will feature a large-scale mural by internationally acclaimed graffiti artist Claudia ‘MadC’ Walde, adding a creative element to the building. Construction milestones in the coming weeks include the first mat foundation pour and the installation of the tower crane.
“We are thrilled to break ground on Excel Miami, a project that is the next chapter in our 25-year legacy of contributing to the city’s evolving landscape,” said Alexis Leal, Shawmut’s head of Florida. “This development will provide much-needed housing options in an activated, walkable location and bring critical mass to an area that has transformed immensely, contributing to the vibrant culture of Miami’s Arts & Entertainment District.”
Miami Mayor Francis Suarez and District 2 Commissioner Damian Pardo joined Clearline Real Estate Founder and CEO Jenny Bernell, Shawmut CEO Les Hiscoe, and other members of the project team at the groundbreaking ceremony.
