The Hyatt Regency Sarasota, which was built in 1975, has finally reached its end. Sources report that the landmark will be demolished to make way for two 18-story towers, with construction anticipated to start in mid-2025. The $250 million venture will offer 174 luxury hotel rooms and 224 condos, along with 8,830 square feet of commercial space and a 6,610-square-foot ballroom.

The Business Observer reports that most of the on-site commercial space will be the hotel’s restaurant. The hotel rooms will remain under the Hyatt banner and will be developed by an affiliate of Kolter Group. The Delray Beach-based firm purchased the property for about $31 million in 2022. Under the new plans, the new hotel would feature less event space and fewer rooms. Sources note that the hotel will continue to operate under its demolition.

The Hyatt Regency Sarasota isn’t the only hospitality-related project unfolding in southwest Florida at the present. In November 2024, Florida YIMBY covered the Miramar Beach Resort’s expansion, a redevelopment that involves demolishing two two-story buildings and replacing them with a 76-story tower.

The Hyatt Regency Sarasota is currently located at 1000 Boulevard of the Arts, Sarasota, FL, 34236, in Sarasota County.
