St. Petersburg city officials greenlit the expansion of the Miramar Beach Resort on Tuesday. The redevelopment calls for the demolition of two two-story buildings, which will be replaced with a 76-foot-tall tower with 30 rooms. This is a scaled-back plan of the original; in 2021, the developer secured approval for 54 rooms.
According to St. Pete Rising, the rooms will span 400 to 500 square feet, replacing 10 units that were constructed in the 1950s. Plans also call for a 90-seat restaurant on the eighth floor that will feature 1,555 square feet of interior space and a balcony. The restaurant will be partially enclosed to limit noise pollution. A ground-floor pool will replace two swimming pools that will be demolished to make way for the new tower.

Upon completion, the number of parking spots will be nearly doubled—going from 20 to 48. Kevin Bowden owns the Miramar Beach Resort. St. Petersburg-based Jack Bodziak and partner Britt Browne Hayes are the architects. Their design plans to preserve most of the hotel’s original 1950s design.
Now that the Miramar Beach Resort project has received approval from St. Pete Beach’s planning board, it will now go before the St. Pete Beach City Council in December. If approved, the project could start construction in the first quarter of 2025. The Miramar Beach Resort is located at 4200 Gulf Boulevard, St. Pete Beach, FL, 33706, in Pinellas County.
