Construction is intended to conclude on Institute Square—an expansion Orlando Health Bayfront Hospital––in late spring 2025. The St. Petersburg venture will comprise close to 200,000 square feet of new construction, with most of the square footage allocated to a four-story, 120,000-square-foot medical pavilion.

Institute Square’s other two structures include a three-story, 60,000-square-foot women’s care facility and a 9,500-square-foot outpatient imaging center and multi-level parking deck. St. Pete Rising reports that construction started in 2023; it has already topped out and various sitework is still underway. The previous buildings on Institute Square’s “superblock” were demolished to make the project possible.

Orlando Health shares that it acquired the 480-bed Bayfront Health St. Petersburg in 2020. There are many goals to the expansion, from offering expanded healthcare services for Florida’s aging population to contributing to cancer research.

Turner Construction Company is operating as the general contractor on the hospital’s expansion. The firm also worked on Silver Hills (later renamed Triton Cay) in Daytona Beach. Our report indicated that the seven-story residential venture would offer 250 residences, including studio to two-bedroom rentals.

Institute Square will be located in St. Petersburg’s Innovation District, north of Bayfront Hospital St. Petersburg.
