Miami International Airport (MIA) is getting a new concourse for the first time since 2007. The addition marks a $600 million investment in Miami’s travel infrastructure, reflecting the increased demand for flight in the area. It’s also a critical part of the larger, $9 billion Future-Ready Modernization in Action plan. This multi-faceted initiative refers to various projects that intend to elevate the airport’s functionality and aesthetic.

Completion is planned for spring 2029. Concourse K will feature six gates, along with modernized bagging systems and a comprehensive equipment maintenance storage area.

The project will also invest in improvements in MIA’s airfield by constructing “an associated aircraft apron and jet fuel hydrant system” and various upgrades to the airport’s bagging network between terminals.

Concourse K will be located on the airport’s south terminal. The Next Miami reports that Lemartec-NV2A JV, LLC was awarded the project’s design-build offer. Sources indicate that Concourse K’s groundbreaking ceremony will take place later this summer.

Miami-based Perez & Perez Architects is the architect. The firm designed the multi-million-dollar expansion with sustainability in mind, hoping to eventually get a LEED Silver certification.

Miami International Airport is located at 2100 NW 42nd Avenue, Miami, FL, 33142, in Miami-Dade County.
