Construction has begun on The Cade Residences at Mirror Lake, a seven-story boutique condominium development by Backstreets Capital in downtown St. Petersburg. The project has secured its building permits and commenced construction, with PLACE Architecture serving as design lead.

The Cade will rise along Mirror Lake with 15 three- and four-bedroom residences, each spanning more than 2,100 square feet. According to Backstreets Capital, 40 percent of the residences are already under contract. Remaining residences start at $1,900,000.

The building is planned as a lower-density residential development with views of Mirror Lake, the downtown skyline, and Tampa Bay. The project is designed to provide a more private alternative to larger condominium buildings in downtown St. Petersburg, with expansive floor plans, residential-scaled interiors, and opportunities for personalization.

“The response to The Cade has validated what we set out to create,” said Will Conroy, President of Backstreets Capital. “With construction now underway and nearly half the residences already spoken for, it’s clear there is strong demand for a more refined, residential experience in our downtown. The Cade is perfect for people who want the privacy, space, and character of a custom home, paired with an irreplaceable lakefront location.”

The Cade’s design draws inspiration from the adjacent Cade Allen House at 250 Mirror Lake, which is currently being restored by Backstreets Capital. Original stone salvaged from the historic home will be incorporated into the new building’s lobby entrance, creating a physical connection between the restored structure and the new residential development.

Amenities at The Cade will include private owner-assigned storage, with one storage area on the residential floor and another within the secured garage. Additional planned amenities include a fitness center, a resident lounge with a warming kitchen, beverage station, and gas fireplace, an exterior amenity deck with a pool and covered seating, and prewired parking spaces for EV charging.

Backstreets Capital, the family office of the Conroy and Sher families, is developing the project. The firm focuses on real estate development throughout Florida’s west coast and has previously developed local projects including The Salvador and Nolen condominiums in downtown St. Petersburg, along with residential, commercial, and mixed-use properties across Tampa Bay.

PLACE Architecture is leading design for The Cade, marking its fourth collaboration with Backstreets Capital after The Salvador, The Nolen, and Clemmons Court, which is nearing completion.

Kathy Hess and Albert Valin of Valin Construction are leading project and construction management. Valin and Backstreets Capital have worked together for decades on projects throughout the area.

Sales are represented by The Wittner Wollman Group, which focuses on commercial real estate, development services, and luxury residential sales. Stephanie Smart of s.p.a.c.e. is leading the interior design program for the project.
