Construction has started on a long-awaited affordable housing project in Miami.

Citadelle Village is set to measure 10 stories above grade and feature 96 apartments, along with some commercial and office space. Residency will be primarily reserved for households earning up to 80 percent of the area median income (AMI), although some homes are reserved for households earning as little as 30 percent.

Most of the homes will be studios, although there would be one-bedroom and two-bedroom options available. They will measure about 630 to 1,180 square feet. Communal amenities will include a clubroom, teenage rec room, and computer lounge.

Aside from the residences, Citadelle Village will host 1,177 square feet of commercial space and 4,000 square feet of office space reserved for the Haitian American Community Development Corporation.

The Corporation is developing the project in partnership with the City of Miami and various non-for-profit organizations. Floridian Development reports that the project has been in the planning stages for nearly a decade. It’s estimated to cost about $52 million to complete, with $5.5 million coming from the City of Miami.

Citadelle Village is anticipated to reach completion in either late 2028 or early 2029. It will be located at 181 NE 82nd St, Miami, Florida, 33138, in Miami-Dade County.
