In September 2022, South Miami city officials approved “Edge at SoMi,” a residential community featuring 311 apartments. Homes will measure 622 square feet to 1,185 square feet each, comprising one-bedroom to multi-bedroom layout plans. Additionally, Edge at SoMi will have just over 3,600 square feet of retail space.
In total, the venture will comprise about 480,000 square feet of new construction. Edge at SoMi will rest on a 1.61-acre site that previously housed a now-demolished office building. Jaxi Builders, the general contractor, hopes to start construction on the $114 million venture in March 2023.
Construction could take 18 months to two years to complete. MSA Architects and Behar Font & Partners are the venture’s architects. Conceptual renderings show that, from above, the 10-story building has an “H” shape.
The mid-rise building will also offer balconies and various communal amenities, including an indoor pool on the third floor. There are about 6,000 square feet of amenities, including the pool’s square footage. Alta Developers is the venture’s developer.
Edge at SoMi’s address is 6075 Sunset Drive, South Miami, Florida, 33143, in Miami-Dade County. The South Florida Business Journal reports that the community is one block west of the South Miami Metrorail Station. It’s also east of Florida 826.
