Tower Crane Permits Filed For 1900 Biscayne Boulevard In Edgewater, Miami

A November 29 filing with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) shows permit applications are under review for two tower cranes that would be assembled at 1900 Biscayne Boulevard in Edgewater, Miami. The cranes would assist in the vertical construction of two FAA-approved 485-foot-tall residential towers designed by Kobi Karp Architects, located between Northeast 19th and 20th Streets. The pair of 42-story towers will mark the second phase of Kushner Companies and PTM Partners‘ Edgewater Collective, a three-towered mixed-use development comprising approximately 1,265 residential units and 24,000 square feet of retail space.

Kushner and PTM seek approval for cranes that would peak at 521 feet and 560 feet, or 531 feet and 570 feet above sea level. Both cranes would last roughly 19 months under use and would be assembled along the northern frontage of Northeast 19th Street, according to the provided map coordinates.

According to pending permits for vertical construction, the 42-story second phase of the Edgewater Collective will top off at 485 feet, or 495 feet above sea level, and comprise 1,401,267 square feet of space including 872 condo units. These permits were filed for the site in July with estimated construction costs of around $245 million, and Pacifica Engineering is listed as the private provider expediting the permit review process. A general contractor has yet to be listed in the permits or announced publicly, but our guess is that Balfour Beatty, who is managing construction on phase one, will also be awarded the contract for phase two. FAA permits for phase two were issued back in August 2022.

The Kobi Karp Architects-designed twin residential towers would join the 36-story 2000 Biscayne Boulevard project across the street to the north, which is currently under construction. YIMBY recently covered construction at the property, which will yield 637,485 square feet of space including 393 rental apartments, 4,569 square feet of ground-floor commercial space, and a parking garage

Demolition work at the site was completed in June 2022, and although a groundbreaking date has not been announced, YIMBY expects site and excavation work to commence between Q1 and Q2 2023.
