Fort Lauderdale to Get New Courthouse at 315 Southeast 11th Street, 33315, in Broward County

Fort Lauderdale’s getting a new courthouse. Sources report that in 2018, Congress approved funding for a 252,000-square-foot courthouse, which could commence construction in the second quarter of 2023.

Per the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), the courthouse will feature 12 courtrooms and 17 judges’ chambers, along with workspace for various government agencies, including the U.S. Court of Appeals.

The build site measure 3.5 acres. Rendering from Hudson Capital Group.

If all goes according to plan, the $196 million venture will finish construction in late 2026. The South Florida Business Journal reports that the GSA acquired the 3.5-acre build site for $13.6 million in 2021.

It will replace the federal courthouse that’s located just a few blocks away. That courthouse was erected in 1979. The mayor of Fort Lauderdale, Dean Trantalis, told media outlets that: “The new courthouse will be another gem in our growing and increasingly cosmopolitan downtown.”

Brassfield & Gorrie was recently awarded the build-design contract. Features of the new courthouse include integrated green space, “fluted metal and glass exterior panels,” and “a contemporary interpretation of Corinthian columns.”

Fort Lauderdale’s new federal courthouse will replace some already-existing structures at 315 Southeast 11th Street, 33315, in Broward County. It’s south of the Tarpon River and the New River.

  1. It’s 315 SE 11th St

  2. What the hell is that?! It looks more outdated than the 1979 courthouse it’s replacing. No wonder Trump signed an executive order for all new Federal buildings to be a timeless classical architectural style, only for Brandon to void it. “A contemporary interpretation of Corinthian columns?” Yeah right!

  3. Should have workforce housing on the upper floors for the lowered paid staff(janitors, gardeners security etc)
