Waste Management Plans for New Facility at 20701 Pembroke Road in Pembroke Pines, Florida

Waste Management has plans for a $75 million recycling facility in Pembroke Pines, FL. Waste Today reports that the Houston-based firm is investing in several recycling facilities in the U.S.

The one in Pembroke Pines will measure 127,000 square feet, resting on a parcel measuring more than 10 acres. The South Florida Business Journal notes that of that 127,000 square feet, 107,070 would serve as storage and material processing space. The remaining 19,930 would be allocated for offices and maintenance space.

The new facility will accompany an already-existing 400,000-square-foot one.

Site plans show 127 parking lots, and sources note that there will be a 1,200-square-foot building that will serve as an education center for students in the area. The new waste management facility would accompany an already-existing recycling facility that measures 400,000 square feet.

Yet, the new facility would rely heavily on robotics and artificial intelligence (AI), allowing the plant to dramatically increase efficiency. It would capture 95 percent of the recyclable material, a 10 percent difference when compared to the current plant. It would also be able to sort newspapers from different types of paper.

Waste Today reports that upon completion, the Pembroke Pines waste management facility will create jobs centered around individuals monitoring the computers and other robotics. Waste Management’s new recycling plant would be located at 20701 Pembroke Road in Pembroke Pines, Florida, 33029, in Broward County.
