Miami Jewish Health Systems is currently working on an expansion of Douglas Gardens, an affordable housing complex for seniors in Broward County. According to McDowell, Douglas Gardens presently has 332 apartments spread across four buildings––all on a 25-acre lot.
The expansion would offer an additional 410 apartments, reserved for low-income individuals 62 years old and older. Of the 410 apartments, five will be studios, 121 will be one-bedroom homes, and 284 will be two-bedroom units.
Douglas Gardens in Pembroke Pines, FL, has more than 300 homes.
They are reserved for those making 50 percent to 120 percent of the area median income. Developers call the expansion “Douglas Gardens IV and Douglas Gardens VI.”
Communal amenities include a fitness center, café, walking path, and on-site educational programs. The South Florida Business Journal reports that in addition to the 410 apartments, plans call for a 15,000-square-foot medical facility that would offer services to those on Medicare and Medicaid. MHP-ANF Group Inc., the general contractor, broke ground on the multi-million-dollar venture in February 2023.

McDowell Housing Partners––Miami is the venture’s owner. Reprtwar Architecture and Design Studios is the architect. Douglas Gardens IV and VI’s address is 705 Southwest 88th Avenue, Pembroke Pines, Florida, 33025, in Broward County. The community is west of Florida 595.
