A major expansion of the historic Cordova Inn is ongoing in downtown St. Petersburg. St. Pete Rising reports that the project will expand the hotel’s capacity by 193 percent—increasing the hotel room number from 32 to 94.
The 62 new guestrooms will reflect a 1920s aesthetic. This is fitting, as the hotel itself opened in 1921. Aside from the occupancy, plans call for the addition of a restaurant, rooftop bar, and swimming pool. The Cordova’s on-site restaurant/bar, The Scott, will remain open during and after construction.
Before the expansion, the Cordova Inn measured 12,200 square feet. In the second quarter of 2024 (when the project is expected to reach completion), the hotel will boast just over 38,000 square feet. The project’s blueprints indicate that the design incorporates the original 1920s structure, along with adding a new five-story building to make space for the new guestrooms.
The Cordova Inn has changed hands many times over the years––and undergone various renovations and upgrades. The hotel was once known as The Pier Hotel before it was reimagined as the Cordova Inn in 2014. New Hotel Collection presently owns the hotel, aiming to provide “a 5-star hotel at a 3-star price point.”
The Cordova Inn is located at 253 2nd Ave N., St. Petersburg, FL, 333701, in Pinellas County.
