Expansion for Tradewinds Island Grand Resort Green Lit for 5500 Gulf Boulevard, St. Pete Beach, FL

This week, St. Petersburg Beach commissioners narrowly approved plans for the 20-year expansion of the Tradewinds Island Grand Resort. Per St. Pete Rising, the four-star resort currently has 967 hotel rooms, along with more than 100,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space.

The four-phase expansion will deliver close to 630 hotel rooms in three towers, 68,000 square feet of additional retail and restaurant space, and 2,113 parking spots. According to the Tampa Bay Business Journal, the expansion will yield a total of 1,596 rooms and “170,216 square feet of accessory space, including retail and restaurant space.”

The expansion will take shape over a 20-year period.

The first phase of construction is expected to start within 12 to 18 months of submitting plans to the city, with the expansion itself completed in 2043. The first phase will entail building a 12-story building with 154 hotel keys. Amenities include a two-story restaurant, swimming pool, and multi-level parking garage.

Our sources indicate that many parties are involved in the Tradewinds expansion, one of which is Nunzio Marc Desantis Architects. Recent renderings show that the Miami-based firm designed the 12th-floor 4,800-square-foot glass balcony. It showcases views of the St. Petersburg Beach. It also hosts swimming pools and an amenity area.

Other involved parties on the Tradewinds expansion include Harris Civil Engineers, Perry-Becker Landscape Architects, and Thornton Tomasetti, Inc. Tradewinds Island Grand Resort is currently located at 5500 Gulf Boulevard, St. Pete Beach, FL, 33706, in Pinellas County.
