Hall Of Fame Partners, a partnership between Capital Group P3 and Hensel Phelps Construction Company have submitted a proposal to redevelop Fort Lauderdale’s International Swimming Hall of Fame in Central Beach. Located at 1 Hall of Fame Drive and 501 Sea Breeze Boulevard, the $90 million renovation and expansion is comprised of the construction of two new five story towers: a 105-foot-tall museum on the west side of the peninsula and a 94-story welcome center on the east side. The development will include a ballroom with a rooftop restaurant, a covered teaching pool, and 20,000 square feet of museum space. as well as a cafe, office and commercial space, and parking for 202 vehicles. The project gained a preliminary approval from the city commission, but still need’s a final city vote to move forward.
The two new structures are designed by Miami-based Arquitectonica, depicted in the renderings below as curved and offset stacked concrete slabs clad in transparent floor-to-ceiling glass. Both towers feature double-height ceilings, hence the unusual height for such few stories. The taller museum building would provide visitors access to views of the Intracoastal Waterway, while the welcome center would provide views of Central Beach and the Atlantic Ocean. The two towers would rise adjacent to the $47 million renovation of the Fort Lauderdale Aquatic Center, which is expected to complete some time later this year. Two existing 2-story structures would be demolished to make way for the new project.

According to the Sun Sentinel, f the project gets the green light, the new towers would open by 2025. Under the current proposal, the developer would pay for construction with the city guaranteeing the loan for both buildings and contributing $5 million over the course of a 30-year master lease. Commissioners came to an agreement with the developer in the case the deal falls through; taxpayers will be required to payback $2.4 million to Hall of Fame Partners LLC for the preliminary work done on the site. The final vote is likely to occur in several months.

Another outrageously over scaled high-rise building blocking the ICW and ocean views. The double-height floors with all glass facade will also add considerably to the high levels of light pollution. They should take a high-dive back to the drawing board to scale this monstrosity down!

Agree with the two comments before me. Scale the project back, way back…🤔and another restaurant? Crazy, just done snack bars would be fine. The venue is not Professional basketball!!!! Make the place pretty. Not monstrous .. seating when the Olympics c one to Fort Lauderdale I’ll pay lol. Use the saved money for workforce housing somewhere in city. Thanks for letting me post
