Wynwood’s Whale & Star Site Eyed for Mixed-Use Redevelopment with Hotel and Condos

Plans have been submitted for potentially redeveloping the Whale & Star building in Miami’s Wynwood Arts District into a mixed-use project. The site is located at 2215-2237 Northwest 1st Place, 175 Northwest 22nd Street, and 170 Northwest 23rd Street, and spans 37,822 square feet. Currently, the property contains 27,406 square feet of commercial buildings, which would be demolished under the proposal.The city’s Wynwood Design Review Committee has approved the plans, which are now set to be reviewed by the Urban Development Review Board (UDRB).

FAA Permits Filed for JW Marriott-Branded Tower at 319 E. Church Street in Downtown Orlando

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has received permit applications for a new 33-story skyscraper that will add a JW Marriott-branded tower to downtown Orlando’s skyline. Designed by DLR Group and developed by Summa Development Group, the mixed-use tower is planned to rise 328 feet above ground, or 423 feet above mean sea level, factoring in the site’s elevation of 95 feet. Construction on the tower is anticipated to begin later this year or early next year at 319 East Church Street, in the heart of Orlando’s downtown district. The permits were filed on June 28 and are currently under review.

Miami Blue Lagoon Development Site Slated for Auction Following Foreclosure Ruling

A development site in Miami’s Blue Lagoon area, previously approved for apartments and a hotel, is now facing foreclosure and is set to be auctioned due to a $17.9 million lawsuit. Miami-Dade County Circuit Court Judge Thomas J. Rebull granted the foreclosure judgment on August 10 in favor of TIG Romspen US Master Mortgage against 7 at Blue Lagoon LLC and loan guarantor Caroline Weiss. The judgment is tied to a loan with $13.2 million in outstanding principal and additional interest and fees. The court found that the borrower failed to repay the loan by its maturity date on October 1, 2022, and neglected to pay real estate taxes from 2020 to 2022.

Developers Reveal Design Plans For 24-Story Tower At 20 N. Ocean Blvd. In Pompano Beach

The Related Group and BH Group have submitted design plans with proposed amendments for a new 24-story condo/hotel project designed by Nichols Architects along the oceanfront in Pompano Beach. The city’s Development Review Committee is set to review the plans for the 3.7-acre site at 20 North Ocean Boulevard on August 7. The developers, operating through affiliate 20 North Oceanside Owner LLC, acquired the property, previously used as a parking lot, for $47.5 million in 2023.
