YIMBY’s coverage of the development of Water Street Tampa continues with the hotel and hospitality components of phase one. In most mega developments, fine hotel space is typically a key ingredient in providing accommodations for visitors wanting to explore what the city’s neighborhoods have to offer, and so that is why Strategic Property Partners has brought together a team of elite architects and engineers to create the city’s first five-star hotel: The Tampa EDITION, the JW Marriott Tampa Water Street , as well as a recently renovated Tampa Marriot Waterside. Together, they make one of the largest collections of hotel spaces in the Tampa Bay area. Let’s jump right in to the details!

In a previous article on Water Street Tampa’s residential component, we mentioned The Residences at The Tampa EDITION, a luxurious collection of 37 private residences under Ian Schrager’s renowned lifestyle brand, featuring interiors by Roman & Williams and architectural designs by Morris Adjmi Architects with NBWW Architects as the architect of record. However, the EDITION brand is notorious for its curated collection of luxury hotels, and Tampa will also have its very own. Located within the podium levels of the tower, The 5 -star Tampa EDITION will feature 172 keys, including king and double queen suites, 2-bay suites and a 2056-square-foot presidential suite. The hotel amenity spaces will be located on the 9th floor, where there will be an outdoor pool and deck, a bar and lounge area, a fitness center and terrace, and various seating areas surrounded by greenery; event and meeting spaces will available as well as six food and beverage outlets, including a signature restaurant.

Addressed as 1000 Water Street, the tower tops out at approximately 319-feet across 27-stories, and at the hotel volume, vertical and horizontal lines can be seen with a smooth stucco finish; patterned in a grid-like form following the concrete floor slabs and perimeter columns.  The windows are enclosed in laminated-insulated tinted glass and framed with aluminum. The EDITION logo appears on several elevations, specifically at the main hotel entrance and southeast corner just below the outdoor terrace.

Walk just a few blocks over, down Water Street and passed the Amalie Arena, and you’ll find yourself before the largest collection of hotel spaces in all of Tampa Bay; the recently completed JW Marriot Tampa Hotel (510 Water Street) and the renovated Tampa Marriot Waterside (505 Water Street). Combined, the hotels feature 1,246 guest rooms and up to 150,000 square feet of event and meeting spaces, and sit adjacent to each other within close proximity to the waterfront. The JW Marriot Tampa began construction in 2018, completing in 2020 and topping out at approximately 298-feet across 26-stories; designed by Nichols Brosch Wurst Wolfe & Associates with interiors by Champalimaud Design.

Meanwhile the Tampa Marriot Waterside, which recently completed an extensive renovation, measures up to approximately 326-feet across 27-stories. The renovated hotel features 2 new patios at the front, reconfigured patio terraces at the rear, and an enhanced west-facing facade with improvements to the landscape and hardscape, blending well with the new JW Marriott. Nichols Brosch Wurst Wolfe & Associates and The Johnson Studio are behind the design updates of the tower.

The three hotels at Water Street Tampa make for a vibrant destination for visitors and locals. Being just steps away from the Tampa Riverwalk, surrounded by various restaurants and retail shops, and offering world-class hospitality, guests are in for quite the experience.

M18 Public Relations is representing the project.

The Tampa EDITION is anticipated to open late 2021.

Phase 1 of Water Street Tampa is scheduled to complete some time in 2022, with full completion by 2027. Details on Phase 2 have not been announced.
